JEWELRY TRENDS 2011

For many jewelry-lovers, we wear the jewelry we enjoy wearing, designs and colors that make us feel good, and most of us have our favorite pieces that we wear most often. However, if it’s important to you to stay on top of what’s in style and keep up with all the latest trends, we have compiled some of the top trends in the world of fashion jewelry for 2011!

More Affordable Metals Continue to Rise in Popularity–With the skyrocketing of gold prices in the past few years, gold has taken a back seat to silver. Now, the price of silver is also on the rise. As the economic crisis continues, other metals are rising in popularity as well. Copper, brass, steel and pewter are much more affordable choices for everyday wear and are available in more and more designs and styles these days. Although yellow gold may be out of the financial reach of the masses, those who prefer this metal are looking for more affordable alternatives to still be able to wear their favorite metal color. Sterling silver has always been a more affordable way to wear beautiful jewelry and remains a favorite for jewelry staples, but other metals are allowing us to afford more bling for our buck!

Bold and Chunky–Jewelry doesn’t have to be larger than life to be noticeable, but this year’s trend seems to be toward larger pieces, such as cabochon necklaces, and heavier weights. Geometric shapes are favorites, and larger, bolder shapes than 2010’s favorite looks allowed. Fringes and tassels are reappearing. Cocktail rings are also among the trend-setters this year.

Wrist-wear is Bolder-Chunky bracelets and cuff bracelets are good bets this year. Layers of bangles are back in fashion. It seems layering in neckwear in 2010 has evolved into layering of wrist-wear this year. Smaller bracelets in layers still reign for those who don’t care for the heavier feel of bangles.

The best way to wear the larger jewelry trends of 2011, however, is only one at a time. There is such a thing as too trendy! Wearing a statement necklace, layers of bangles and a cocktail ring would just be overkill.

And, remember, wearing what makes you feel good is always more important than following trends. Being comfortable in what you’re wearing is always in style!

Colors are Bold and Cheerful–Oranges, and shades of blue and green are popular. However, even brown and gray are in Pantone’s color palette for Spring 2011. Pantone, a leading authority on color trends, has declared that honeysuckle, a deep, rich pink, is the color of the year, so expect to see a lot of deep pink tones this year’s jewelry. Gemstones in rich hues are also in style.

The Classics are Never Out of Fashion–Pearls, stud earrings and hoop earrings seem to always be in style. Simple pendant necklaces are always a safe bet, too.

Back to Nature Perhaps–Natural materials have long been a big draw for accessories and this trend continues to grow. Wood and shell are still popular materials in fashion jewelry this year, as well as feathers.

larger shapes. Statement necklaces are making a fashion statement in 2011.

Dangling earrings and chandelier earrings are all the rage now and lend elegance and sparkle to everything from evening wear to jeans and t-shirt. Sparkling dangles can jazz up any outfit and are right for any occasion.

Shorter, But Heavier Necklaces, Dangling Earrings–Longer necklaces were the big trend last year, and multiple strands are still a good bet, though the layered look is giving way this year to shorter, but bolder, neckwear with
